DAY 1 DELNICE or FUŽINE (arrival)
Wedged between the continent and the coast, the mountainous Gorski Kotar is still largely off the tourist radar, thus preserving an atmospheric ambiance amidst intact landscapes of green hills, river creeks and mountain peaks. On the first day of your journey, meet your tour leader and fellow travelers and enjoy a welcome dinner. Overnight in Delnice/Fužine.
DAY 2 VISIT TO HONEY MAKERS – HIKING TO SPECIAL NATURE RESERVE VRAŽJI PROLAZ AND ZELENI VIR
Start the day sweetly, with a visit to honey makers in Delnice and a honey tasting to power the rest of your day. It will come in handy during the hike which starts in Ložac. In the Special Nature Reserve Zeleni Vir and Vražji prolaz, where the nature is all-encompassing, you will embark on lushly green paths to discover the gems of this region. Zeleni vir (The Green Whirl) is a powerful spring bubbling beneath a shallow cave, towered by a jaw-dropping white, vertical rock, 70-meters-tall. You will continue through Vražji Prolaz (the Devil’s Pass), a narrow canyon meandering between 100-meters-tall cliffs, as the creek beneath it murmurs and splashes. Using a system of wooden walkways and platforms, reach Muževa Hižica, a cave you can briefly explore. Reminisce of your day over dinner and spend overnight in Delnice/Fužine.
DAY 3 HIKING IN NATIONAL PARK RISNJAK (INCLUDING THE SPRING OF THE KUPA RIVER)
Spread around Risnjak and Snježnik mountains, the Risnjak National Park is home to the three great beasts of the European wildlife: the wolf, the bear and the lynx, which immediately tells you how well-preserved this area is. From Razloge, hike some 30 minutes down bucolic slopes to arrive to the spring of Kupa River. An area protected as a natural treasure since 1963, the spring is a mystery of karst landscapes, sitting at over 300 meters above the sea and dissolving into an emerald green lake, an ode to serenity. Its beauty and favorable microclimate are home to such a variety of flora and fauna that the area is lovingly called ‘the valley of butterflies’. Through the valley, to the tiny village of Kupari and then, time-permitting, over Leska Educational Path, you will make your way back to the hotel and enjoy another evening feeling relaxed and fulfilled. Dinner and overnight in Delnice/Fužine.
DAY 4 FREE DAY (OPTIONAL TRIPS)
After two action-packed days, today is a day you can craft to your liking. Sit back and take in the nature, visit the nearby parks or choose another optional tour to keep the adrenaline going. Rafting on Kupa River rapids will deliver just that, while choose hiking an alternative route in the Risnjak National park could be a more relaxed option. Your experienced tour leader can suggest a range of options in accordance with your wishes. Dine at the hotel and stay overnight in Delnice/Fužine.
DAY 5 VISIT TO POPOVIĆ MILL – BIKING IN FUŽINE – VISIT TO CAVE VRELO
Enjoy a hearty breakfast before venturing out to see how flour used to be made around here. You will visit the Popović mill, the first building in Delnice to have electricity, and also the oldest electric mill in Europe. Today, set around a rustic building is a lovely display of historic machinery used over a century ago. Next, travel to Fužine, a picturesque lakeside town surrounded in lush coniferous forests. Bike an easy asphalt and gravel route (approximately 22 km) around the lake, travelling down the wonderful lakeside to the cave Vrelo (the Spring). Hidden until the formation of the accumulation lake, the cave is quite deep, some 300 meters, and sits upon potent underground streams which echo mystically against the cave walls. With lungs full of fresh air, return to Delnice/Fužine for a dinner at the hotel and an overnight stay.
DAY 6 HIKING IN FOREST PARK GOLUBINJAK – HERB LIQUEURS TASTING – HIKING AROUND LOKVARSKO LAKE
Following breakfast, forget the world as you know it and venture into the dense woods of Golubinjak Park Forest, an exquisite gift of nature and a landscape from a fairy tale. Relax your body and soul as you breathe in the fresh air, scented with the cool of the centuries-old forest. Find the Queen of the Forest, a gigantic fir tree with rings witnessing over 250 years of existence, then explore the caves, Ledena (Icy) and Golubinja (Dove’s cave). Wander away to a local farm to taste the labor of love of this stunning region – authentic liqueurs made from the fruits and herbs. With a newly found force, enjoy a stroll around the fir-lined Lokvarsko Lake and then return to your hotel for dinner. Overnight in Delnice/Fužine.
DAY 7 DELNICE or FUŽINE
Following breakfast, bid farewell to your group and get ready to return to reality. Or, join us for an 8-day island hopping trip in the south Adriatic region of Croatia.
